Selden Barn Wedding Photographer – Jasmine & Jared
Selden Barn Wedding
You couldn’t get more nestled in the South Downs National Park than Selden Barn, it’s surrounded by the most beautiful Sussex countryside giving me, as a Sussex wedding photographer, all the backdrops I need to get gorgeous wedding photographs. Just north of Worthing this lovely wedding venue looks out across the fields towards Patching Village. It’s one of several barns I photograph weddings at, here’s another top Sussex barn venue.
Natural wedding photography at Selden Barn
I arrived at Selden Barn to hear laughter rolling out across the lawn from the guest bedrooms. I knew I’d have to have my cameras ready before I even said hi to anyone, and sure enough I was able to get some great shots of Jasmine & her family & bridal party with my telephoto lens, chatting & smiling as they had makeup & hair done in the open air. That beginning pretty much set the tone for the day with everyone laughing & smiling the whole time. The available light was beautifully soft & stayed that way, meaning I could capture stunning skin tones.
The layout of the venue rooms meant I was able to move between where Jasmine was getting ready & where Jared was with the groomsmen. While the ceremony was being prepared the ushers had some time to themselves to have a drink & chat before they had to be ready. Meanwhile I was able to go back over to where Jasmine was putting on her wedding dress with her bridesmaids. Jasmine’s dad came in while I was there & had an emotional first look at her before he walked her down the aisle.
Over at the ceremony room the ushers & best man did last minute checks of cravats & suits before everything started. Jasmine’s entrance was very emotional with some tears & more laughter before the signing of the register and then everyone gathered in the courtyard for a big group photo. When Jasmine, her mum Debbie & I had met at Selden Barn to have a run through of the day about a month before the wedding, I’d spotted a good vantage point to do a photograph of everyone. Selden Barn were excellent in arranging for me to be able to go up to the top window of the farmhouse to shoot down on the assembled guests.
Celebrations and speeches in the main barn
After some confetti, I was able to take Jasmine & Jared off for some photos of the two of them in the lanes surrounding the barns. There are some great photo opportunities in the areas around the farm, and also in the fields, you’re really spoilt for choice & could go on doing photos for hours, but I like to get the newlyweds back to their guests as quickly as possible once I know I have some great shots of them together. We did some group shots with families & friends & I was able to get some excellent shots of guests enjoying themselves chatting and laughing.
Soon we moved in to the main barn for the couples’ wedding breakfast & speeches, followed by the cutting of the cake & their first dance. Guests were able to spill out onto the patio overlooking the surrounding fields & enjoy a drink as the evening light fell. The bouncy caste made for some great shots of the kids, still full of energy.
