Natural Wedding Photography
I love this shot, every time I see it it makes me smile. Jerry was about to marry Joss when he made this gesture. Guests were still coming in to the Westminster Room at Marylebone Town Hall when he said something to Joss that made her laugh and him put his hand to his mouth. I can see from the lady behind them that whatever he said was loud enough for her to hear and it made her laugh too! I will never know what it was he said to Joss, but I hope they do remember and laugh every time they see this natural wedding photo I shot for them.
Spontaneous Photography
Every wedding I photograph has loads of these moments. Some intimate, some funny, many very personal to not only the couple but also to some of the guests there on the day. While there are lots of shots that I think are important to capture on any wedding day, it is these unique, deeply personal natural wedding photography moments that I love most and is why I became a Sussex wedding photographer.
How I Captured This Wedding Image
Joss and Jerry came into the ceremony room together, so after photographing them walking together down the corridor, I ducked into the ceremony room and got myself into position to capture them entering the room.
Getting Into The Right Position
At this point in the day, I am trying to stay one step ahead of events as no amount of preparation can make you totally ready for what will happen. Apart from the spontaneous, lots of things can change. So, I got myself where I thought would be the best position to get the shots I wanted.
In the Westminster Room at Marylebone Town Hall, they always have two huge vases of flowers, one on each end of the table. This means I have to be much closer to the action as I have to navigate the flowers to get the shots I need.
Making Sure I Have The Right Lens
I had changed from the longer 50mm lens I used to photograph them walking down the corridor, to the 23mm lens I shot this image on. Though I carry several lenses with me on the day, the main ones I use are the 50mm and the 23mm. I have one each on my Fuji XT3’s so I can move quickly between them as the shot I want demands. I was getting some lovely shots of the two of them chatting before the ceremony started, when this moment happened. Of all those moments, this is my favourite as it is so expressive and natural.
